Before buying an eSIM, it’s worth confirming your phone supports it — otherwise there’s nowhere to install the QR code. Good news: the check takes 60 seconds and there are three reliable methods. This guide shows how to find out if your phone supports eSIM — on iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi/Redmi, Google Pixel, and other Androids.

Method 1: Dial *#06# (universal, fastest)

Works on any phone — iPhone and Android.

  1. Open the Phone app (dialer).
  2. Dial *#06# (star, hash, 06, hash).
  3. The screen shows device information.
  4. Look for the EID line — a long 32-digit number.

If EID is present → your phone supports eSIM. If no EID (only IMEI) → eSIM is not supported.

EID (Embedded Identity Document) is the unique identifier of the built-in eSIM chip. It only exists on phones with a physical eSIM module.

Method 2: Check in Settings

iPhone

  1. Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data).
  2. If you see “Add eSIM” or “Add Data Plan” → eSIM is supported.

eSIM-supported: iPhone XS, XR and newer (2018+). iPhone X, 8, 7 and older — no.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Settings → ConnectionsSIM card manager.
  2. If you see “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan” → eSIM is supported.

eSIM-supported: Galaxy S20 and newer, Note 20+, Z Fold, Z Flip. Older and budget Samsung models often lack eSIM.

Xiaomi / Redmi

  1. Settings → SIM cards & mobile networksAdd eSIM.
  2. Or: Settings → About phoneAll specs → “Network capabilities” section → look for “eSIM”.

eSIM-supported: Xiaomi 12T Pro, 13 and 14 series, Redmi Note 14 Pro+ / Pro 5G (region-dependent). ⚠️ Not all Redmi: Redmi Note 10s, Redmi Note 11 Pro (global) — no eSIM. More: Xiaomi eSIM.

Google Pixel

  1. Settings → Network & internetSIMs.
  2. If you see ”+” or “Download a SIM” → eSIM is supported.

eSIM-supported: Pixel 3 and newer.

Method 3: Compatible devices list

If you don’t want to check manually — consult the list. Full roster of eSIM-compatible iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel, OnePlus, Sony, Huawei: eSIM-compatible devices.

Quick list of the most popular eSIM phones:

Brand eSIM supported from
Apple iPhone XS / XR (2018) and newer
Samsung Galaxy S20 (2020) and newer, Z Fold/Flip
Google Pixel 3 (2018) and newer
Xiaomi 12T Pro, 13/14 series (not all Redmi)
OnePlus OnePlus 11 and newer (region-dependent)
Sony Xperia 10 III and newer
Huawei P40, Mate 40 and newer (region-dependent)

Important: phone must be unlocked

Even if your phone supports eSIM, it must be carrier-unlocked. Phones bought on contract with a specific carrier in the US/Europe are sometimes locked — they’ll only accept that carrier’s eSIM.

How to check lock status: - iPhone: Settings → General → About → look for “Carrier Lock”. Should say “No SIM restrictions”. - Android: insert another carrier’s SIM — if it works, the phone is unlocked.

Phones bought outright (retail, official reseller) are almost always unlocked.

FAQ

How to check if my phone supports eSIM without a SIM card? Dial *#06# — the code works even without a SIM inserted. If the result shows an EID, eSIM is supported.

What is EID? EID (Embedded Identity Document) is a unique 32-digit identifier of the built-in eSIM chip. Its presence = your phone supports eSIM.

Do all new phones support eSIM? Most flagships from 2020 onward — yes. But budget models (especially Redmi, some Galaxy A-series in certain regions) may lack eSIM. Always check via *#06# or in Settings.

Does my Samsung A-series support eSIM? Depends on model and region. Galaxy A55, A54 (some versions) — yes. Older A-series often lack eSIM. Check via Settings → Connections → SIM card manager → is there “Add eSIM”.

Does Redmi support eSIM? Not all. Redmi Note 14 Pro+ / Pro 5G — yes (region-dependent). Redmi Note 10s, Note 11 Pro global — no. Check via *#06# or Settings → SIM cards → Add eSIM.

Can I add eSIM to a phone without an eSIM chip? No. eSIM is a physical built-in chip. If your phone has no eSIM module (no EID), you can’t add eSIM via software. You need an eSIM-capable phone.

Does iPhone SE support eSIM? iPhone SE 2nd gen (2020) and 3rd gen (2022) — yes, they support eSIM. iPhone SE 1st gen (2016) — no.

Phone supports eSIM but “Add eSIM” isn’t in Settings — why? Possible reasons: 1) phone is carrier-locked; 2) regional version without eSIM (common with Chinese Xiaomi versions); 3) outdated firmware — update the OS. Check *#06# for an EID.

Where to buy eSIM if my phone is compatible? Pick your destination on the Simsimsim catalog, pay, get QR by email in 60 seconds, install. Guide: how to install eSIM.
