eSIM-Compatible Devices

Check if your phone supports eSIM, plus the full 2026 model list.

Last updated: 2026-05-19

Not every phone supports eSIM. Before you buy a travel plan, you need to confirm two things: your phone has an eSIM chip, and it isn’t locked to a single carrier. This guide covers both, plus the full list of compatible iPhone and Android models and step-by-step install instructions.

How to check if your phone supports eSIM

You don’t have to take the manufacturer’s word for it. Use one of these three methods.

1. Dial *#06# on the keypad. Your phone will show its IMEI numbers. If you see an “EID” line (a 32-digit number), your device has an eSIM chip. No EID, no eSIM.

2. Check your Settings.

  • iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll down to “Available SIM” or “Digital SIM”. If you see an EID field, you’re good.
  • Android (Pixel): Settings → About phone → SIM status → look for “EID”.
  • Samsung Galaxy: Settings → About phone → Status information → IMEI information.

3. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility list. Apple, Google, and Samsung publish official eSIM device lists. Carrier variants matter — the same model number can ship with or without eSIM depending on the region.

eSIM-compatible iPhones

Apple has supported eSIM since 2018. Every iPhone XS or later supports eSIM, with one major exception (see China note below).

Year Models
2018 iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
2019 iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
2020 iPhone SE (2nd gen), iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
2021 iPhone 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
2022 iPhone SE (3rd gen), iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
2023 iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
2024 iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16e
2025 iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, iPhone SE (4th gen)

Important regional notes:

  • US iPhones (14 and later) are eSIM-only. Apple removed the physical SIM tray on US models starting with the iPhone 14 in 2022. You can store eight eSIM profiles and use two at the same time.
  • Mainland China iPhones use dual physical SIM and do not support eSIM. If you bought your iPhone in China, it likely won’t work with any eSIM provider, including Simsimsim. Hong Kong and Macau iPhones generally do support eSIM.
  • Other regions ship with one physical SIM tray plus eSIM.

eSIM-compatible Android phones

Android support is more fragmented than iPhone. Here’s the short version.

Google Pixel

  • Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL
  • Pixel 4, 4 XL, 4a, 4a 5G
  • Pixel 5, 5a
  • Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
  • Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a
  • Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a
  • Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold

Pixel 3 was the first Pixel with eSIM, but early units sold through Verizon were locked to that carrier.

Samsung Galaxy

  • Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra (not the US versions of S20/S20+ on some carriers)
  • Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra
  • Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra
  • Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Flip 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
  • Galaxy Z Fold 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
  • Galaxy A54, A55 (region-dependent)

Hong Kong and mainland China variants of many Samsung models do not support eSIM.

OnePlus

  • OnePlus 11, 12, 13
  • OnePlus Open

Other brands

  • Sony: Xperia 1 IV, 1 V, 5 IV, 10 IV and later
  • Huawei: P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro (limited regions)
  • Motorola: Razr (2019), Razr 5G, Razr 40/40 Ultra, Razr 50, Edge 40, Edge 50
  • Honor: Magic 5 Pro, Magic 6 Pro
  • Xiaomi: 12T Pro, 13, 13T, 14 (region-dependent)

If your model isn’t listed, search “[your model] eSIM support site:[manufacturer].com” or run the *#06# check above.

Unlocked vs carrier-locked phones

This is the part most guides skip. Your phone must be unlocked to use a third-party eSIM like Simsimsim.

If you bought your phone on a payment plan from a carrier (Verizon, T-Mobile, EE, O2, etc.), it may be locked to that carrier’s network. A locked phone will accept the eSIM QR code but refuse to register on a foreign carrier.

How to check if you’re unlocked:

  • iPhone: Settings → General → About → look for “Carrier Lock”. You want it to say “No SIM restrictions”.
  • Android: Insert another carrier’s SIM (physical or eSIM). If it works, you’re unlocked.

If you’re locked, contact your carrier and request an unlock. Most US and EU carriers will unlock paid-off devices for free.

How to install eSIM on iPhone

You’ll get a QR code by email after purchase. From there:

  1. Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data outside the US).
  2. Tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
  3. Tap Use QR Code and scan the email QR code (or tap Enter Details Manually if you have an activation code).
  4. Label the plan (“Travel — Spain”) and choose which line to use for data.
  5. Toggle Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line. This is required for foreign networks even though Simsimsim isn’t a roaming plan technically.

Install before you fly. Activation typically happens when the eSIM first connects to a network in the destination country.

How to install eSIM on Android

Steps vary slightly by manufacturer. Pixel is the cleanest.

Pixel: 1. Settings → Network & internetSIMs+ Add SIM. 2. Tap Download a SIM instead? 3. Scan the QR code from your email. 4. Confirm and name the plan. 5. Enable Roaming in the plan settings.

Samsung Galaxy: 1. Settings → ConnectionsSIM managerAdd eSIM. 2. Tap Scan QR code from service provider. 3. Scan the QR code. 4. Confirm activation. 5. Toggle Data roaming ON for the new eSIM.

FAQ

Does my phone need internet to install an eSIM? Yes. You need Wi-Fi or your existing cellular data to download the eSIM profile. Install it before you leave home.

Can I have multiple eSIMs installed? Modern iPhones store up to eight eSIMs and use two at once. Pixel and Galaxy support multiple eSIMs but only one or two active simultaneously.

Will eSIM work if my home SIM is in another country? Yes. eSIM is independent of your physical SIM. You can keep your home number active for calls and SMS while using Simsimsim for data.

What if my phone supports eSIM but isn’t on your list? The lists above cover the common models. Run *#06# to check for an EID. If you have one, it’ll work.

Can I move an eSIM from one phone to another? Each eSIM profile is tied to one device. To switch phones, you’d need to delete the eSIM and request a new QR code. Simsimsim eSIMs can be reissued before activation within 180 days.
